Hey Heartbreakers, I’m Julia, the owner and founder of Heartbreak Honey. I’m so glad you’re here.

The concept behind Heartbreak Honey first took shape in 2020 as a college class project. I had just been broken up with, and as I’m sure whoever is reading this knows, it sucks. If you’re anything like me, you always find yourself looking to redefine your style after heartbreak- My way of doing this was through retail therapy. I was finding every opportunity I could to online shop and redefine my style and knew the pieces that were missing in my closet, but more often than not, ended up with a cart full of items I didn’t want and spending way too much money. After getting assigned this project, and getting my heartbroken, I realized the need in the market for something more curated and authentic, but also affordable. This is when the idea for HBH really began.

After finishing the course, and graduating college a few years later, I still didn’t fully have the courage to launch it, so there it sat- in my head, waiting to be seen. I was constantly convincing myself that it, “Wasn’t the right time”, or I, “Didn’t have any money” to start. But truthfully, what I was too scared to admit was, “I’m terrified to take all of the ideas in my head and put them out into the world, just to be heartbroken again if no one likes them.”

I spent years dabbling in various jobs—sales, marketing, bartending, customer service—seeking direction, and to be honest avoiding my real passion, until New Year's Day 2023, when I lost my dad. As an entrepreneur and business owner himself, I grew up constantly surrounded by the hustle, and was shown day in and day out what it takes to make your dreams come true. The day I lost him was the day I realized life is too short and decided to stop waiting for the perfect time. As Carrie Bradshaw says, “Life gives you lots of chances to screw up, which means you have just as many chances to get it right.”

Motivated by watching my dad share his passion with the world, I was inspired to finally share mine. His legacy left a mark, so here’s what I’ve decided to do with my own:

Heartbreak Honey is more than a store; it’s a sanctuary where shopping aligns with personal expression. Designed for people who, like me, navigate life with a small credit card limit and a lot of anxiety, HBH offers an antidote to today’s overwhelming retail landscape.

We know what you’re thinking: What if I don’t like a drop you produce? What if I don’t fit into one aesthetic? That’s totally okay- If you’re anything like me, you have so many different moods and styles it’s difficult to fit into one category. Some days, you want to be riding a bike through the streets of Europe, others you want to be drenched in glitter and hairspray on your way to the most happening club in Vegas, and most days, you want to be curled up on the couch in your comfiest lounge set watching How To Lose a Guy In 10 Days. Our aim is to provide a space where you can embrace every facet of your personality.

While our ultimate goal is to offer multiple aesthetics simultaneously, until we get there each HBH drop brings something new and distinct to your wardrobe. We celebrate individuality, ensuring every style and narrative finds its place in our collections and then into your closet.

HBH aims to empower individuals by flipping the script—turning the heartbroken into heartbreakers, reclaiming personal style one aesthetic at a time.

I’ve been dreaming this brand up in my head for so long, and to see it finally come to life means so much to me. I’m so excited for this journey with you, discovering beauty in every heartbreak.

Julia Marino
